India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.50% – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the lost 0.50% to hit a new 1-month low, while the index declined 0.55%.

The best performers of the session on the were Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:), which rose 4.63% or 33.80 points to trade at 763.05 at the close. Meanwhile, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:) added 4.26% or 6.25 points to end at 152.95 and Coal India Ltd (NS:) was up 1.86% or 2.90 points to 159.10 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NS:), which fell 2.68% or 22.00 points to trade at 798.95 at the close. Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:) declined 2.39% or 62.25 points to end at 2536.95 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:) was down 2.35% or 184.55 points to 7669.45.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:) which rose 1.45% to 2012.00, NTPC Ltd (BO:) which was up 1.42% to settle at 135.40 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:) which gained 1.11% to close at 760.20.

The worst performers were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:) which was down 2.62% to 7645.00 in late trade, Infosys Ltd (BO:) which lost 2.01% to settle at 1697.50 and ITC Ltd (BO:) which was down 1.60% to 227.90 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1020 to 728 and 45 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1912 rose and 1279 declined, while 133 ended unchanged.

The , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 5.11% to 17.0950.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.37% or 6.65 to $1790.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.19% or 0.15 to hit $78.35 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.27% or 0.22 to trade at $82.09 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.04% to 74.398, while EUR/INR fell 0.32% to 83.4380.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 96.705.
